Mojo Gamble – Melbourne, Australia – Garage Rock
I know I sound like a broken record (although, if a record were truly broken, wouldn’t it sound like nothing? Food for thought) but Melbourne is where all the best indie rock is coming from these days. A lot of it, anyway. Either that or it’s just the city with the sound that’s right for me. I should just move there, and make this love affair official. But enough about me and Melbourne. (There’s something in the water there, for sure.)
Mojo Gamble is a band with a slick name and a slicker frontman. The band has a partying punk/blues sound that is sure to get your mojo thumpin’ no matter where on the globe you call home. It’s worth checking out the three videos on Mojo Gamble’s YouTube as they are all delectable indie treats, and all of them are from the Life is Pain (I Wanna Die) EP, which consists of four very tight and very great songs. You may notice a theme of Life is Pain (I Wanna Die). Observe.
- So Fucked Up (I Wanna Die)
- No Return
- Youth in Asia
- Life is Pain
Pretty metal if you ask me. But the music is a lot cozier than you’d expect from titles like that.
Oh, stop reading and just go listen. You’ll love it. Check out the guy’s moustache. That alone should have you sold.
So Fucked Up
I think the best introduction to Mojo Gamble’s music videos is the straightforward but fun video to “So Fucked Up (I Wanna Die).” A head-bopping, toe-tapping slide guitar will escort you through the black-and-white video of Mr. Mojo Gamble strutting his stuff and falling all over the place like any hard-working frontperson ought to.
Seriously, gang, it’s only four songs. Just give it a try.
It’s in that Melbourne water, I’m tellin’ ya.
