Bad Mary – Long Island, NY – punk pop rock
If Didi Ramone and Blondie had a love child it would be BAD MARY. This four piece band packs a power punch. They put on a kicky live shows with candy tossed into the audience.
Punk rockers from the Island that is Long. They have been playing since 2009. They are out to revive the punk scene “the more we have been playing the more we find people who are looking for it”
The name Bad Mary, after a fair amount of debate, emanated from a desire to keep the band name crisp and clear. Bad Mary rolls easily off the tongue plus it shows they have a female fronting the band. Clarity. They wanted a band name that someone band can scream across a parking. It’s clear and punchy. It caught my eye.
Amanda belts the lyrics with joie de vivre. She clearly enjoys fronting this band of creative musicians. They keep it all in the family as Mike (guitar) is her husband with the drummer, Bill, being her Dad. Professor Bill handles the bass lines.
In an interview/live performance Amanda and Mike talked about the death of music industry and Green Day. They both think ” Punk fans are old school. They want to buy the CDs and merch.” Mike claimed if he didn’t have punk rock “I wouldn’t have gotten through high school” He really defended Green Day. “Seeing American Idiot was our first date.”
Most of their songs stay under 3 mins keeping in the Ramone punk style. Check out their stand out tracks such as “Sucks to Be You” off Killing Dinasours (2015). Amanda will crash your calm party. with her potent lyrics.
“I won’t deal with you
’cause you’re full of trash
So I guess I should take you out
And you can kiss my ass”
Another track that will crawl into your psyche is the ripping track “When You Think of Me” off their latest EP We Could Have Saved the World (2016).
“I don’t think any thing about you, why you judging me?”
They have a Patreon page where they play live. The live shows also go on their Facebook page. They play the Island as well as a few venues in the city. Catch them live. Get punky.
A band worth savoring and seeing live. They do a killer version of the “Little Drummer Boy” in keeping in line with the holiday season.
