Airpark – Nashville, TN – Pop Rock
Airpark is a band seeped in style, sophistication and substance. Their guitar playing is ripe with vibrato and bravado. They play off one another, each seeming to sense when to back off to let the other shine.
The video for “Le Tigre” pops with hidden innuendos and dream like revelations. Staged like an elaborate off Broadway Avant garde production, the video begins with Michael quivering on the ground with a slice of blood on his neck. He sings with his distinct vocal intonations “You’re built like an earthquake” Moving swiftly to the next visual cadence centering on his steady voice that reminds me of dark brown velvet. The Ford brothers employ a stark minimalist style when it comes to their visual productions of their songs Even their style relies on fitted clothing with minimal accouterments. They keep their hair short and wispy around their sculpted faces. While they look like twins Ben is the elder by a year and a half.
The well-directed video centers on the brothers playing the song while a bevy of fencers spar in front of them and then around them. The psychological mind game ensues but they “are feeling so focused”. Michael’s voice raises to another level as he sings “I don’t see it as a problem.” Ben drops well placed riffs as they play dueling guitars. There compact playing signal a breath of unity. They create an unassuming force with their music that shivers with charisma and dramatic overlays.
The fencers shed their mass to reveal seriously smudged eyes and pale haunted faces. All of the sparse decorations are the makings of a nightmare. The bowl of fruit is tended by a snake. The bite of a Red Delicious apple is the start of the demise. The fencing team surrounds Ben as he continues to provide fuzzed out crunchy riffs. The psychedelic sound rises to an exciting crescendo that fit perfectly in this dreamesque video. It ends as it began with Michael quivering one the floor like in the beginning with a thin slice on his neck eyes smudged out by the a burnt wine cork, “You’re built like an earthquake. Well I should know not to feel it.”
